About Us

Who we are

Daigneault Drums is a family business - we are a proud Metis family.

Dana Daigneault is the family and business matriarch. She is my mom, she is not Native or Metis; however,  she has been married to one over 40 years and has 5 wonderful and talented Metis children.

As the family matriarch she has been supportively involved in all our activities, families and careers.

As one of the Metis daughters, I am a helper (and artist) with the drum workshops. In one of my previous career lives, I was an Aboriginal Support Worker in a large school district (two of my sisters are still employed there, both in the Aboriginal Department).

Why we do it

I was taught how to make drums as a young adult by a First Nations Elder.

I have made many drums and informally taught over the years - one of the people I taught was my mom; whom had a instant connection and pride in making something so sacred and special, and being able to be part of that tradition.

This business is about being able to share that experience with others.

Which is why we started Daigneault Drums; to teach and share what we love.  It is not "big business" (huge profit) and we are not grant funded, we charge the cost to cover supplies, provide a reasonable honorarium for our lead helper and guest helpers volunteer.

These workshops provide the Daigneault family the opportunity to work together, share their culture and inspire others.

Come join us for some fun, and  learn the pride of making your own drum.  Everyone is welcome!

Our workshops

As a Metis family will your workshop be different then other Indigenous Drum Making Workshops?

Yes!  Honestly, I have had the honour to attend several different offerings of drum workshops and explore different "kits" or supplies - no two are the same.  There are differences in the way each of them have been done, and in the supplies that are offered.

Personally, we are fond of the pressed laminated rims (circle),

there are many that offer octagon style. We do not.

We try to have a mix of hides... my personal preference is natural Deer, Elk or Moose  - but we try to respect individual choice when available

We are very lucky to be doing what we love as our profession. This job allows us to travel and meet interesting new people all the time. We hope we are able to work together soon!
